The Art Institute of Las Vegas – Now Non-Profit, Still the Same Price

The Media Arts Tuition costs

You can visit The Art Institute of Las Vegas’s website and learn that they are now non-profit!  You can learn this because they bolster it on their website.

Does this mean a better education? Better equipment? Better instruction?  I honestly can’t tell you, although a non-profit college is suppose to invest its money into the school rather than on advertising/marketing.  I’ve seen it range from 20%-30% for recruitment at a for-profit college.  That’s a LOT of money being invested into The Art Institutes, and it should improve their quality.  But why should you pay so much in the first place?

What I can tell you is that the price of their education still hasn’t gone down.  The Art Grant does give a 20% discount, but it also has a lot of ties to it.

Six years ago, their tuition was the same when I enrolled as it is now.  Their site says it hasn’t gone up in seven years.  I suppose you can say that everywhere else tuition has gone up.  I guess that means they aren’t overcharging now.

Still, over $86,000 just for tuition?  That’s a lot of money to learn a skill – a skill that is so easily learned online for little to no money.

Marketing, eh?

Of the 2 years, 9 months I spent there, I never ran into a Marketing student, and I don’t recall them ever having a Marketing degree. This is new!

This is one of those things that I don’t understand is the same price as a film degree.  How are Bachelor of Science degrees in Advertising, Marketing & Entertainment Management, and Professional Writing for the Creative Arts the same price as a degree in Film and Video Production? Hopefully there are tons of visits from career professionals from all over the country, or field trips or something!

There are tons of marketing and advertising videos online, all probably more up to date than what AILV will give you, at up to 100% less of the $86,000 price tag.

I can tell you first hand that $89,952 is WAY too much for what I experienced there while I was in the Digital Filmmaking and Video Production program.  I would’ve been much better off just being given $7,500 for equipment and learning off YouTube.  100% serious.

At least you have the option to not buy the starter kit.  At least it’s only $352 now compared to the ridiculous $900+ for one I paid.  We all complained about how terrible it was, so I’m hoping they at least got rid of a lot of the junk in that starter kit.

And to add on that, check out my post on what I have learned with transferring credits out of UNLV.  If you spend a year there, would your $30,000 in classes be worth it if they don’t transfer out but only MAYBE to a handful of schools in the entire United States?

Trust me – After I learned the basics there, it was a giant waste of time.  You can see my list of experiences on my AILV List post!
