Wacom Bamboo Tablet CTH-670 – Pen Not Working and Tablet Not Showing Up Under Wacom Properties

Wacom Tablets (or any other tablet I’m sure) are great tools for those who do a lot of work in Photoshop or other photo editing software.  If you do a lot of editing, I highly suggest one.  Wacom is the premiere brand, but Amazon’s Best Seller is currently under $25!  It’s a little small, but might be good for you to try out to see if a larger investment is worth it.

I received a Wacom Bamboo Tablet CTH-670 from a friend a while back and it worked great.  However, when I got a new computer, it stopped working.  I thought it was just used and abused so I set it aside, as I didn’t need it when I found out it wasn’t working.

Spring cleaning time came up and I found it again, so I decided to give it another go.  I went to Wacom’s website support and found the exact error screen that I was getting.

I know it’s not responding – it’s not working!

I followed their instructions on their webpage to no avail, so I contacted support as instructed.  Here is the message I sent them:

Model Number: CTH-670 I have followed the “What does the error message “Your device is not responding” mean and how do I fix it?” instructions under the Wacom Customer Support site. The tablet turns on when plugged in, the buttons work, and my finger can move the mouse. The pen does not work and the tablet does not appear when I open the Wacom Desktop Center (says No Device Connected). I have tried 3 different USB ports in my computer. Any help you can provide would be most excellent. Thanks!

It took two days for them to respond, and here is what they said in the email:

Thank you for contacting Wacom Customer Support. Please follow these steps:

Manual Windows Uninstall Steps

Disconnect the tablet from the computer

Open the Control Panel

Open Programs and Features

Uninstall any listing here for Tablet or Wacom Tablet and then restart the computer

Once restarted please manually check to see if any of the following files are left behind. Please make note of which files are leftover then delete them by moving them to your trash and emptying the trash.

To delete the files below you will need to unhide your system folders. To do this, go to Start button> Control Panel> Appearance and Personalization> then click on Folder Options. Go to the View tab and under Advanced Settings, click Show hidden files, folders, and drives, and then click OK.

C:\Program Files\Tablet

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\WTablet

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Temp\wactemp

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Wacom

C:\Windows\System32\

WacDriverDLCoinst.dll

Wacom_Tablet.dll

Wacom_Touch_Tablet.dll

WacomMT.dll

WacomTabletUserDefaults.xml

WacomTouchUserDefaults.xml

Wacom_Tablet.dat

Once removed and the trash emptied, restart the computer.

Once this is complete, download and install the latest driver

As always, make sure your tablet is connected directly to your computer. Avoid using USB hubs, keyboard/monitor ports, or docking stations with the tablets, as they can cause inconsistent behavior.

Install this driver:

Current – Driver 5.3.5-3 for Windows

http://cdn.wacom.com/u/productsupport/drivers/win/consumer/pentablet_5.3.5-3.exe

Thank you for choosing Wacom.

I did exactly as instructed in the email, and now the table works perfect.  Thanks Wacom!

The reason there is one item bolded in the list above is because that was the only thing I found on my computer.  I just found it interesting that it could’ve been one folder that was preventing the tablet from working at 100%!

Will this solve your issue?  Hopefully, if your problem seems to be the same as I explained in my message to Wacom Support.  If not, contact them, I’m sure they’ll get you fixed up!
