In their course catalog (if you can ever find it online), you will see that the school offers three foreign languages – French, Japanese, and Spanish. All have a showing of two levels for each class.
I took French I (Conversational French). However, the school never offered the next level of French the whole time I was there and they only offered it that one time. I have seen Conversational Spanish offered at least once (I think twice) and I don’t recall ever seeing Conversational Japanese. I also don’t recall seeing the second level for either of those classes, but maybe not enough students were still around to justify level 2. I’m sure most normal college frequently offer classes!
From all of my travels, I can confidently say that speaking other languages is probably one of the greatest skills a person can have. No matter where you are, if you can at least attempt to speak to a person in their native tongue, the chances are very high you will be accepted much sooner. It is unfortunate that this school doesn’t offer these classes more often like their other general education classes.
Also, why were so many students who were already pretty much fluent in Spanish taking an entry level Spanish speaking course? That seems like a complete waste of time to me. They essentially were giving AILV $1,400 for probably an “A” for a grade.
I don’t think taking foreign language classes is honestly much helpful unless you’re serious about learning the language. Think about how many people took classes at one point but remember almost nothing. If learning a language isn’t supporting one of your medium or long term goals, I would suggest to stray away from them!
