Microsoft’s Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000

In preparation for building this website, I purchased a new Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 from Microsoft.  I purchased one of these literally almost a decade ago, back when the box was red!

Best Buy sent me an email (sometimes I feel like they email too much, but they do have some daily deals that you can’t pass up on sometimes) with the Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 in it for $25.  The last time I moved, something must have fallen on my old one because it quit working.  It did last about 10 years though, with about 4 years of that being fulltime use.  I used it sporadically, but it mainly when I planned on doing a lot of typing.

Be careful when you buy it new!  The packaging is very basic, as you can see in the pictures below.  No padding at all!

Keep in mind that this is a rather large keyboard with some height to it.  On my computer desk, it barely fits in the keyboard sliding drawer. In fact, to use it properly, I need to have a bit of the keyboard off the drawer.

But, is it worth it?  Of course it is!  Even at full price.  But why buy it at full price from Microsoft when you can head to Amazon or other retailers and purchase it for less and probably get it quicker!  You will have to head to Microsoft’s page, though, if you want to download the driver/software.  The keyboard literally comes with just the keyboard.

The keyboard is plug and play; however, if you want some of the more advanced features to work like the zoom/scroll button in the middle of the keyboard, you’ll have to install the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center.
