It took its time, but A Quiet Place Part 2 finally came out, but not after trailer burnout! The performances were great from the cast all around, the story was fine, but of course, movies have to be dumb sometimes! Listen to the podcast today or check out the transcription below! Transcription for A Quiet Place Part 2

One of the greatest moments in 2021 cinematic history thus far is the fact that the movie, A Quiet Place Part 2, came out, but it’s not because of the quality of the movie. It’s because it was one of those movies that just got so irritating. I don’t know if it’s just me or if it’s everybody who loves going to the theater. But after you see a trailer over and over and over and over…before this whole pandemic even started, we were seeing A Quiet Place Part 2, that trailer over and over and over. And then right when the movie was supposed to come out, we got it shut down. And then back in July, when I was able to start going to movies again, it was A Quiet Place Part 2, A Quiet Place Part 2 trailer over and over and over again, it kind of felt like it didn’t matter what movie you are going to see, you’re going to see A Quiet Place Part 2.
1:01
And of course, when the movie finally gotten announced date, we started seeing the trailer for that movie, over and over and over again. So please, I don’t know what the solution is, especially in small town theaters where they don’t get a lot of movies. But man, A Quiet Place Part 2 was complete trailer burnout. And let’s never have that again.
1:37
Now, I don’t know about many of you out there, but I grew up in a pretty small town. The town definitely didn’t look as small as the town in A Quiet Place Part 2. But even a town as small as the one I grew up in, it was about 800 to 900 people. Actually, when I live there was probably around 12 to 1300. In this movie, the small town looks like it just nothing happens. Nothing is happening. They do a shot, it’s like morning time, there’s a shot downtime, a great shot, it really set up the movie, but when you look at it from what you would consider a normal, real and I know, I mean these obviously aliens haven’t come to Earth yet to destroy us like they did in this movie. But the perception of reality is there in this movie so we’re going to perceive it as real.
2:24
This town wouldn’t be as dead as it was. But it was a good setup – it was great way to start the movie. So of course, it happened pretty quickly. You had your status quo there for a few minutes. And then the aliens came and attacked the town. And I think one of my favorite moments in the movie, and I think it’s worth exploring, is when reagan we got her point of view from what was happening. And it was just dead silent.
2:51
And I thought to myself, could the movie be have made? Could the movie – could the movie may have? Could the movie possibly could have it worked. If it was shot from her point of view, if we just got silence for the entire movie. I mean, I’m sure we could, they could put in some bass because it’s I’m sure she can feel bass. So we get to feel that. But I really enjoyed the brief moments in the film where we had no sound. It was just dead air. If we could possibly used more or maybe we could get A Silent (Quiet) Place Part 2.5 short film – Where’s the Silence? Or I don’t know, something like that.
4:01
And in that first swarm, I guess you’d call it, it was pretty impressive with how fast Lee was able to pick up on the weakness, or the strength I guess you’d say of the aliens, or aliens or whatever you want to call them. They it’s – just it’s movies, you know, you normally take their time. And it takes a while to figure out what the weaknesses are how they operate. But geez, within five to 10 minutes of the attack, Lee was able to figure out that sound was what they did. It was crazy. But it was good, which I don’t know how he would have been able to spread the word. Maybe written word of that information that he gathered there in that bar restaurant or wherever that was in the beginning.
4:47
But it’s kind of a shocking because the what it’s like 500 days later and they still don’t have sonic weapons. You know, somebody would have figured it out I think. Well, I mean they they we figured out that that’s how they are taking care of the monsters from the first movie, even.
5:07
In the first movie, we learned how they found the weakness with the earpiece that Reagan has. And it just seems like yeah, you know, I don’t know, if these if this small little group of people in one little area was able to figure it out, it just seems like they, somebody else would have figured it out. That’s me digressing. A year later, not just if this all happened within the span of two days. Okay, but it didn’t.
5:50
Boy, howdy! So we, so we see the Abbott family traveling, and the mother is carrying the baby and a shotgun. I don’t know if that was the best way to separate the items. I mean, I know the kid – the boy – he probably wasn’t big enough for the girl in the train car. And I would have to see this again.
6:13
And if you did notice, please let me know, but when she was up against the end of the train car, and one of the beasts is coming at her, she puts the shotgun up and she pulls the trigger. And that I mean, she was up against the train car in with her with that shotgun kicking up against her. I mean, of course, adrenaline would have probably negated any of the pain or anything but a little later, she should have been selling her shoulder, don’t you think? Like, but I heard that maybe the shotgun, the stock was up against the car, she didn’t actually put it up against her shoulder. I don’t know if that was true or not. But if I’m right, nobody’s that tough. Nobody that small, isn’t that tough. They’re not going to shoot a shotgun and take the full force of it. And not feel it at all. But that’s just me complaining about shotguns.
7:08
So many dolly shots in this movie. I could have done without a few of them. I don’t know if somebody in the Producer-Director camp loves feet, says so many dolly shots. I didn’t need all those. That’s just me personally, I get why they were there, though.
7:30
And we get the trope. You know, there’s tropes in these movies. And the one trope in this movie that really stuck out to me because it kind of gets old after a while is the “solo warrior who stands for himself until he finds a purpose to help other people”. And that would be the form of Emmet, who is out there taking care of himself and he gets conned into helping the Abbott family.
7:58
Dang. And then the two kids, Marcus and Reagan they’re arguing because Reagan says I’m gonna go find – cuz she hears they hear the station with the song and then Reagan figures out where the song is probably coming from. And they start arguing because Marcus is like, don’t go mom’s mom says no.
8:19
And Reagan is like I have to, it’s what dad to it’s that is what dad would do. And then Marcus says, and look what happened to him. Dang. This movie was basically like, if you’re gonna be the hero, you’re gonna die. And his death in the first movie, it was a little underwhelming, I thought, but – but he did save the day. So what do you do? Do you save the day? Or do you just not try?
9:16
Now this movie did have a few transitions. I wrote one down, saying the radio tower transition. And I mean, I am recording this podcast a bit after I had seen the movie. And I don’t know why I wrote down that radio transmission podcast or transition radio tower transition. It must have been pretty good. But the one that really stuck out to me was they were at one point somebody was using a flashlight to look around and they were moving it from left to right. And it transitioned into a door opening in the way that it worked was pretty awesome. And if there’s one thing I really appreciate movies, it’s thoughtful transitions. Because cuts are cool. fades are cool wipes are cool. But if you can work it into the movie – that’s where some real magic is.
10:03
And speaking of the radio tower, so they find out that Reagan realizes that there’s a secret message in the song that’s been playing over the radio. And there’s an island right outside right off the coast. And there’s radio tower there. So she’s like, “Oh, that’s probably where they’re playing it from. If they’re playing it from there, then things must be good.”
10:23
And why it has to be a secret. It seemed like we in the movie, it seemed that they played the song so that it was a secret, but there was no indication that they knew that these beasts could speak English and understand English. So I don’t know why they had to do the song. I mean, it was a full radio station, there was a whole little village of people living there, next to the radio station.
10:48
I don’t know why – nobody there could figure out how to make a new recording and put it on. It’s possible that a lot of the equipment was damaged. But when they went there, it looked pretty clean. Somebody there in a year’s time would have, I’m sure cracked on how they could have actually broadcasted a real message. They obviously knew that the beasts couldn’t swim, so they were safe on the island. So why not just play a message saying, “Hey, come to the island, but you’re safe here.”
11:23
And where did they get all the food? If they? I don’t know. They didn’t really explain that. Did they? Maybe they didn’t I don’t know. Another thing that got me was that you know, the world is under attack right now. Why do you not have guards? Like somebody should have seen that boat float across – oh, wait, I’m pretty sure that’s what happened. That boat just floated across with that beast on it and that’s how I got on the island. Why didn’t nobody know it was there, not the beast, but somebody should have saw the boat. I guess when you think you’re safe, you just put down all of your defenses, which is not the case. In that situation. niche should be at 90% defense, maybe after a while you get complacent. But I don’t think that would be the case in an alien invasion.
12:36
Now when that beast did hit that village, and he started causing all sorts of chaos and this is another, I guess you’d call it a trope. There’s all this insane stuff going on. And there’s always one kid who’s just standing there watching – completely oblivious to everything that’s happening. You see it in just about every movie. It’s not okay, maybe not every movie, but there’s always a kid just standing there looking. And then some adult has to come save them.
13:07
And maybe it would happen in real life. I don’t know, is this is it’s just – as you could tell him a little like over it. And just one more note on this movie. I mean, I obviously enjoyed this movie a lot of people did. It’s, it’s good horror. And it’s not just the same thing over and over, it does use a couple jumpscares, which is kind of boring.
13:32
I kind of didn’t like the synchronization between the scenes of what was going on in different locations. It was it was like you had two different places, or three different places. And there’s people in these different places, and they’re all progressing equally to us a mini climax for the sequence. It just felt a little forced to me. I don’t know if I would have rather just seen each sequence play out and just let that tension build up for each scene and let me have that scene rather than every scenes like working at the same time. It just – I don’t know. It was cool once but after the second time I was like okay, I’m over this already. Do not abuse. It’s like people with drone shots. Drone shot drone shot drone shot like I can’t remember if this movie had any drone shots in it, but obviously I didn’t write anything down so it probably didn’t have more than two. Or at least it didn’t have two that were just used just because they had drones.
14:40
But anyways, was some of my thoughts on A Quiet Place Part 2 What did you think about A Quiet Place Part 2 was it as good as part one? I don’t know. I hated part one because it didn’t have an ending and I do not like movies period that do not have endings period. Why would you make a movie without an ending? That’s just me.
